Frequently asked questions

Practical answers about construction compliance, consents, traffic management and working with CiviEase.

Resource Consents

It depends on your project, the site and the district plan rules. If you are unsure, send us your address and a brief description of what you are planning. We can quickly check whether resource consent is likely to be required.

Processing times vary depending on the complexity of your application and council workload. A straightforward application may take a few weeks, while more complex proposals can take longer. We help prepare complete applications designed to reduce avoidable back-and-forth.

You will need your site address, a description of the work, site plans or drawings, photos, and any relevant information about the site. If you are missing anything, we can help you work out what is needed.

Council RFI

RFI stands for Request for Information. Councils send these when they need more detail about your application before they can assess it. It is a normal part of the process. We can help you prepare a clear, complete response.

The timeframe will be specified in the council letter. It is important to respond within the deadline to avoid your application being returned or further delayed. Contact us as soon as you receive an RFI so we can work within the timeframe.

Traffic Assessments

A TIA is typically required when your development may affect traffic flow, road safety, parking demand or access. This can include new commercial developments, subdivisions, changes of use or projects that alter existing access points.

The cost depends on the size and complexity of the project, and the level of data collection required. Contact us with your project details and we will provide a clear quote.

TMPs and Traffic Management

Yes. We prepare traffic management plans for worksites where traffic, pedestrians, cyclists or property access may be affected. We can also support council or RCA submission and respond to any questions.

Yes. We can help with site traffic management planning, setup support and coordination. The specific services available depend on the site, RCA approval, staff availability and job scope. Contact us to discuss your requirements.

A TMP is the plan document that sets out how traffic will be managed. Temporary traffic management is the actual on-site implementation of that plan — setting up cones, signs, barriers and managing traffic flow during the work.

Equipment and Vehicles

Yes. We hire traffic management vehicles and equipment for Christchurch city and wider Canterbury region projects. Availability depends on what we have in stock at the time, so contact us early to check and reserve what you need.

Send us your site address, a description of the work and your TMP if you have one. We can advise on the equipment that will be needed for your specific site conditions.

General

No. Approval depends on the proposal, site constraints, district plan rules and council assessment. We help prepare clear documentation to support the application process, but the final decision rests with council.

CiviEase supports Christchurch city, the Canterbury region and Auckland projects, with regional support including Selwyn District, Waimakariri District and Ashburton District. Auckland delivery details depend on the project and should be confirmed before work is booked.

Response timing depends on current workload, project complexity and the information available. For urgent matters, call 08000 CIVIL and send the site address, plans, council letter, RFI or work details.
